- BioArtelier
Who are we? One might think that art and science are incompatible. Indeed, they seem to be on opposing ends of a scale – art is born out of creativity and abstract thoughts, and a seemingly open set of rules, and science is a practice rooted in logic, facts, and structure. However, they often have more in common than what meets the eye and can be beautifully intertwined. BioArtelier is an incredibly unique student-led organization with members from over 15+ countries, who together strive to promote and explore the exciting mediums of bio art & design. Our Aim BioArtelier aims to help bridge the gap between the Arts and Sciences in STEAM fields by empowering the youth to explore the exciting mediums of bio art & design through both collaboration, and exploration of their individual interests. By giving our members the freedom to explore and create tangible outcomes for their BioArt-related passions, we hope to raise awareness about this often-overlooked bridge between the arts and sciences. Our long-term goal is to consistently engage our online community through the creation of digital workshops, webinars, podcasts, and a digital publication, where we aim to establish a tight-knit community where young bio artists can support and share their passions within the field. Our Future Plans In order to reach a broader international audience, BioArtelier will mainly focus on expanding its presence online and creating greater brand awareness through our Instagram (@bioartelier). However, over the next year, we also plan to expand our activities to more diverse platforms, as well as cater to an in-person audience-the Singaporean community- to achieve more tangible outcomes. This will hopefully be through the creation of our DIY microbial art-making kits, which we will rovide to local art communities and shelters. - Canadian Youth Letters Project
Our Origins and Mission The Canadian Youth Letters Project (or CYLP) is a youth-led initiative created to address the lack of representation that youth have in Canadian politics. We were launched by a group of Canadian highschool students with the mission to “engage youth in politics, give them a political voice and open communication between the government and the general population.” What do we do to achieve our mission? The CYLP works to achieve our mission in several ways: Social Media: Writing informative posts and articles about legislation, political issues affecting Canadians, and other relevant topics related to politics and Canada. Outreach: Collaborating with schools and other organizations to help give youth practical political skills, help improve critical thinking, improving letter writing skills, and allowing students a platform to share their political needs and beliefs. Lobbying: Lobbying the Canadian federal and provincial governments to gain a response to issues that affect youth. Volunteering: Volunteering initiatives and volunteering within our communities in order to directly contribute to Canadian society. Letters Initiative: This initiative is where youth from all over the country can send in letters and letter ideas to the CYLP that we will send on their behalf (with credit) to the appropriate government representative. Why get involved? The CYLP works directly with Canadian youth in order gain an idea of as many different perspectives as possible. Canadian youth are unique diverse, and your unique perspectives can help us better represent your needs and those of your peers across the country. Besides, your work with CYLP counts as volunteer hours and experience for school and work! What does it mean to be a project member? A CYLP member can be any Canadian citizen or resident under the age of 21. Members can choose what role they’d like to take on depending on their interests and skillsets. Members can take on as much or as little work as they’d like, and mental health breaks are encouraged. Meetings are held over Skype every one-to-two weeks, according to member availability. - Cards for Bravery
About Us: Cards for Bravery is a non-profit organisation based in the United Kingdom. We aim to brighten the days of hospitalised and seriously ill children through multiple activities such as distributing handmade cards, Activity Packs and creating Bravery Packages. We currently work with over 15 hospitals and have distributed over 15,000 handmade cards. Our Story Cards for Bravery was founded by Katie in May 2015 whilst she was enduring a 4-month long hospital stay. Katie struggles with multiple chronic illnesses herself and understands the difficulties and isolation of being admitted to the hospital and living with a long-term health condition - especially as a child. During her hospital admission, she received a handmade card from a friend which really brightened her day and made her smile. After experiencing how the smallest gesture could have such a big impact during the toughest of times, Cards for Bravery was created. Being a creative person, Katie originally planned on just creating a few positive cards for the other children on the hospital ward but quickly realised the larger benefit this could have and over the years the organisation has grown from strength to strength. Everyday we are amazed at the help, support and benefit our organisation has and we will continue to make a positive impact on hospitalised and sick children in any way we can! How you can help and get involved! ● Create Cards One of the main ways you can get involved with our organisation is by creating handmade cards for us. We ask the public to create and send in positive handmade cards which we then distribute to the hospitalised children. We also accept birthday cards and every year have an annual Christmas Card Appeal. All you have to do is follow our card guidelines which you can find on our website! If you are interested in regularly creating cards or are looking for volunteer hours for creating cards, you can also register to become a card making volunteer via this form. ● Become a regular volunteer We have new volunteer opportunities on a regular basis and are always looking for new ways to expand our team. Any volunteer opportunities that are open for registration will be promoted on our social media platforms. We have a range of different opportunities such as social media volunteers, outreach coordinators, administrative volunteers and more! Currently these roles are only UK/EU-based due to logistic and time zone reasons. ● Donate to our organisation or run your own event We are always seeking donations which can be donated in multiple ways such as PayPal Donations, Amazon Wishlists, EasyFundraising, etc. Furthermore, you are more than welcome to hold either your own fundraising event or card-making event! These events can be held either for fundraising or card-making reasons, or both. You could hold it with family and friends, within your educational environment, locally or anywhere else that is suitable for you! You can also gain volunteer hours for the time you spend organising and holding your event. If you are interested in holding your own event please do contact us via email. ● Spread the word! A super easy way to help us out is simply by spreading the word about our organisation. Sharing our accounts with family and friends, on your social media platforms etc. will give others the chance to learn about our organisation, what we do and it may intrigue them to want to help us out which is the most important thing! The more exposure, the more cards we can make and the more children’s days we can brighten! - Sitaara
Greetings We are Sitaara, a non profit organisation started by a 15 year old. When dark clouds of the corona hover over us, menstruators fight another storm. "It's a luxury!" They said. "We are already spending so much on dowry, now you want this too?" They said. "Chee! Don't talk about it here. Keep it to yourself. It's not a priority. Don't you see petrol prices going up? We don't have money for this?" They said. About 70% of menstruators in India don't have access to even the most decent period products. A number which has been increasing due to covid. The price is around 150 INR which is sometimes the daily salary of an individual. How can we expect them to be able to afford them? No wonder many of them resort to using leaves, ragged cloth, and sometimes even ash. Not telling anyone when they contract fatal diseases and are in pain. And the 36% who have access to menstrual products, the plastic disposable pad they use harms the environment. A pad takes 500-800 years to decompose. Being non-breathable, they cause rashes and deprive one of the vital bodily fluids, sucking out important secretions. Also, the pads end up in landfills where workers manually separate them, risking contracting diseases and bacterial infections. These dumped pads wait for animals to tear them open and further contributing to more diseases in the world. Taboo, that's beyond speakable. The shame is so intense one suffers in silence than breaking the shush and speaking up. A DIY cloth pad kit would be perfect! A packet of 3 costs less than 45 INR (Depending on shipping costs) (for context cloth pads in the market cost a minimum of 56 INR for one) if bought from retail which one can use for 18 months or even more, depending on how well one keeps them. Tested for microbial and chemical tests. And sold out 480+ pads. A unit of transgender under us works. The design has nada (drawstrings) to tie on the waists. This is quite unconventional but the people in our team who used it said it didn't move much. Usually, cloth pads don't have adhesive at the bottom like disposable pads thus keep moving. Making it an uncomfortable experience. With the nadas, it helps one do sports and yoga. The pad can hold up to 60ml of liquid and the fabric used is of superior quality. For reference, a menstruater bleed out that much amount of blood in her whole cycle. For this Sitaara and Edify came about. Sitaara, an organization that started in May 2021, and Edify split from Sitaara in Oct 2021. Edify had many workshops inside being Sitaara and then we realized this mission takes its very own initiative. Thus Edify cam about made by previously parts of Sitaara. There we have interesting games like "Doctor or Not", "X-O's quizzes" to check their learning, "Music-Yoga" and many fun games like these. Addressing the shame around menstruation and games like "Doctor or Not" help them learn about frowned-upon topics like menstrual diseases. These workshops are targeted toward children helping the next generation throw the taboo out! That's the idea. This is something about our work. Regards.

- The MESH Project
The MESH Project is a student-led initiative that gives students a chance to publish written work in a safe and professional environment. To say COVID-19 changed the classroom would be an understatement. For students across the globe, the pandemic signified a time of silence and inaction as student newspapers, advocacy groups, and academic clubs fell by the wayside; the school-attending youth of the world in effect lost their voices. The MESH Project aims to provide these silenced students an opportunity to regain their passion—their voice. Any academic work or passion project, whether it be an exposure to the intricacies of the healthcare industry or a deep dive into the production of The Bachelor will be welcomed and added to our collection. Past simply acting as a publishing site, The MESH Project takes pride in its willingness to read and provide feedback to any works submitted. We, too, are students and share in the struggle of finding a way to grow in our writing without the presence of constructive criticism. Submitting to our project guarantees a way to both share your voice and grow in the process.
