  • Language Learners International

Our Background Story Language Learners International commenced in early November 2020 under the aegis of our two co-founders, Callum Lynch and Scott York. They wanted to create an organisation that brought together youth from around the world with an ardour for languages, cultures, and linguistics to collaborate and create exclusive content. Since the commencement, we have expanded to a team of over 50 young individuals across the globe, living up to our name 'Language Learners International'. Our team represents over 15 countries, from Guatemala to Hong Kong. Who We Are and What We Do Joining Language Learners International can be a catalyst for growth for students as they acquire personal development and linguistic skills. Joining our global team can foster a wide-based network and help to gather experience in multifarious domains. Additionally, they gain insights into real-world workplace dynamics. They can also earn volunteer hours and Letters of Recommendation recognising their contributions to the community. We are keen to construct a community that is passionate and focused on raising cultural awareness and expanding the linguistic capacities of people globally. We believe in youth empowerment and fostering a community that allows our team to develop invaluable skills such as leadership, creativity, management, and teamwork. How We Operate Our organisation is split into three divisions; Creative, Operational, and Executive. Within these three divisions are 8 teams that have been categorised into a division based on their function. For example, our Writing, Editing, Graphic Design, and Engagement teams are part of the Creative Department because each of these teams is responsible for a component of our social media content. Each team works interdependently and facilitates the process of creating exclusive content for a sizable audience. With various perks like the flexibility to join multiple divisions or contribute occasionally to separate divisions and an employee positive reinforcement plan in place, we encourage the members to perform effectively. Regular team meetings ensure a smooth workflow as well as provide an opportunity to meet new people. How to Join Language Learners International Joining our team is fairly uncomplicated as we strive to make it a smooth and easy process. Once you apply for one of the vacancies, a team member reviews your application and sends an email to inform you if you have successfully progressed onto the next stage of our recruitment process or not. In the next stage, we conduct an interview where you get the chance to meet one of our Directors. They conduct the interview and provide feedback to the Executive Team. If you are successfully selected to join our team, you are informed to initiate the onboarding process that clarifies everything you need to do to assimilate into our team. It involves joining our group chat and creating an email account. Once you are on board at LLI, you will be assigned tasks by your team director. The team director also assists you during the initial tasks to understand the workflow. All other necessary information for our members is available in our Organisation Handbook. Any additional questions can be answered by your team director or the Executive Directors.

  • The Bytes and Pieces organisation

Bytes & Pieces: A Youth Coding and Music Organization Article written by Bytes &Pieces' founder, Julia Huang How was Bytes and Pieces created? I realized there was more to coding and music than just learning and creating. I started Bytes and Pieces in order to share what I learned in two of my most favorite passions, learning how to code and how to compose music. As both of these fields are highly understudied in schools, I decided to start an organization that hosts workshops, events, contests, and more to provide a deeper or extra curriculum that explores topics in both computer science and music composition. We also hope to help increase diversity and inclusion, as minorities are highly underrepresented in both of these fields, and bring our workshops to under-resourced areas and around the world. Currently, we have had over 20+ mentors/curriculum developers/designers and 100+ student members. What do students get from joining Bytes & Pieces? Students can learn music theory/composition/history to create their own song about a story/experience/emotion. Can also enhance or learn coding skills in java, python, html, css, and a variety of other languages to create a coding project of their choice on a topic they are passionate about. They can use these coding skills to attend our hosted hackathons to meet teams and win prizes. Students will also learn Artificial Intelligence and machine learning skills to create/code a model that can solve real-world problems such as recognizing and classifying wild plant types. These technology skills can be useful/helpful especially if students want to pursue a STEM or tech field in college/jobs. How is the club organised? Coding Contests: usually once or twice a year Workshops: all in Eastern time. 30-60 min meeting 1-3 times a month on weekends. How can students join? Do they have to live in a particular place? Students can join by clicking on the Workshop Participant Interest Form to fill out a google form to show their interest for events/workshops in a topic of their choice (music, coding, artificial intelligence - choose 2 or 3 of them). Our workshops are open and free to everyone in the world ages 11 and up. What will happen once students sign up? They will be added to a group email list and will prompt students to sign up for our discord and/or remind group. Every 1-7 days before a workshop we will send out a zoom link with workshop logistics.

  • FOLK OF THE AIR SERIES by Holly Black (book review)

If you like reading books containing... - Fantasy - Romance - Enemies to lovers (slow burn) - Strong female main character ....then you will definitely love the Folk of the Air trilogy Plot The Folk of the Air series consists of 3 books: The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King, The Queen of Nothing. They follow the story of Jude Duarte, a human girl kidnapped from the mortal world and taken to the kingdom of Elfhame. She is forced to grow up with Madoc, a Faerie and the man who murdered her parents in front of her and who took her to Elfhame, as her father. Over time, her and her twin sister Taryn grew to love him despite the trauma he caused them, but their older sister Vivienne always resented him. Jude and Taryn take lessons with Faerie gentry, including prince Cardan and his group of friends, who Jude despised because they would pick on her for being mortal. Jude always wanted to prove herself to everyone around her, and to show that her mortality didn’t make her weak, which sometimes got her into trouble. Favorite quotes “If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse.” “Instead of being afraid, I could become something to fear.” “Before, I never knew how far I would go. Now I believe I have the answer. I will go as far as there is to go. I will go way too far.” “Show your power by appearing powerless.” 4.5 stars!! I strongly recommend this trilogy!! I love all the tropes it includes and found it super easy to get hooked to. it is one of the best YA series I've read, and I would definitely read it again.
