What is it?
DermaTeens is a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to educating youth about dermatologic biology and public health, with a focus on combatting misinformation and spreading awareness about skin cancer prevention through published medically-reviewed articles, research, infographics, projects, and various fundraisers to create a world of educated problem-solvers who care about the health of their skin and the world.
Our impact:
With over 30,000 views across our 45 articles, 15 successful projects, a 15-page research paper, over 1,000 Instagram followers, and a sunscreen alarm program reaching over 200 people, DermaTeens does the work. In less than one year, we have been recognized by hundreds of other youth-led organizations, featured in the TODAY Show’s parenting blog, and more.
How does one join?
We have rolling writer positions with no experience required. Every few months, there are applications to join our board of directors.
You can find updates about how to join the team on our Instagram @dermateens.
You can access the writer application here.
After you apply, our Executive Director will get back to you within one week on the status of your application and the next steps. If you join the team, you’ll be sent a guiding document with every detail about your work. Everything at DermaTeens is asynchronous, and our Director of Management and editors will be the ones who you are in communicate with. There are monthly publishing meetings where updates about DermaTeens are shared and writers can work through their ideas.
Why join?
By joining DermaTeens, you can enhance your knowledge and understanding of the skin and your overall health, which helps improve your science literacy. On top of having the ability to earn service hours through your work, you can join a group of over 20 fellow youth who are all ambitious and looking to improve our world through writing and service.
