About Us:
Cards for Bravery is a non-profit organisation based in the United Kingdom. We aim to brighten the days of hospitalised and seriously ill children through multiple activities such as distributing handmade cards, Activity Packs and creating Bravery Packages. We currently work with over 15 hospitals and have distributed over 15,000 handmade cards.
Our Story
Cards for Bravery was founded by Katie in May 2015 whilst she was enduring a 4-month long hospital stay. Katie struggles with multiple chronic illnesses herself and understands the difficulties and isolation of being admitted to the hospital and living with a long-term health condition - especially as a child. During her hospital admission, she received a handmade card from a friend which really brightened her day and made her smile. After experiencing how the smallest gesture could have such a big impact during the toughest of times, Cards for Bravery was created. Being a creative person, Katie originally planned on just creating a few positive cards for the other children on the hospital ward but quickly realised the larger benefit this could have and over the years the organisation has grown from strength to strength. Everyday we are amazed at the help, support and benefit our organisation has and we will continue to make a positive impact on hospitalised and sick children in any way we can!
How you can help and get involved!
● Create Cards
One of the main ways you can get involved with our organisation is by creating handmade cards for us. We ask the public to create and send in positive handmade cards which we then distribute to the hospitalised children. We also accept birthday cards and every year have an annual Christmas Card Appeal. All you have to do is follow our card guidelines which you can find on our website! If you are interested in regularly creating cards or are looking for volunteer hours for creating cards, you can also register to become a card making volunteer via this form.
● Become a regular volunteer
We have new volunteer opportunities on a regular basis and are always looking for new ways to expand our team. Any volunteer opportunities that are open for registration will be promoted on our social media platforms. We have a range of different opportunities such as social media volunteers, outreach coordinators, administrative volunteers and more! Currently these roles are only UK/EU-based due to logistic and time zone reasons.
● Donate to our organisation or run your own event
We are always seeking donations which can be donated in multiple ways such as PayPal Donations, Amazon Wishlists, EasyFundraising, etc. Furthermore, you are more than welcome to hold either your own fundraising event or card-making event! These events can be held either for fundraising or card-making reasons, or both. You could hold it with family and friends, within your educational environment, locally or anywhere else that is suitable for you! You can also gain volunteer hours for the time you spend organising and holding your event. If you are interested in holding your own event please do contact us via email.
● Spread the word!
A super easy way to help us out is simply by spreading the word about our organisation. Sharing our accounts with family and friends, on your social media platforms etc. will give others the chance to learn about our organisation, what we do and it may intrigue them to want to help us out which is the most important thing! The more exposure, the more cards we can make and the more children’s days we can brighten!
